Classical Spotlight: Season starts

This week we'll have great classical music and interviews with musicians on Classical Spotlight, Thursday afternoon at 2pm with host John Clare.

The Lee Trio (right) performs Friday night with works by Leonard Bernstein, Franz Joseph Haydn and Robert Schumann. The Concert, part of the Redeemer Fine Arts Series, is at 7pm in the Ruth Taylor Rectial Hall at Trinity University. More information at 930-4480 and online: http://www.theleetrio.com/

Sunday, September 7th, "Les Bonbons pour le violin" features violinist Emmanuel Borok (Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony seen left) and pianist/director of Musical Bridges Around the World Anya Grokhovski. They'll play Tartini's Variations on the Theme of Corelli, Mendelssohn's Sonata F major, and "Les Bonbons" - violin miniatures from the Golden violin repertory by Kreisler, Paganini and others. There is also a free concert Sunday night from Musical Bridges Around the World's Musical Evenings at San Fernando...soprano Angela Malek and La Follia perform baroque selections at the 1732 cathedral. At 6 pm, the Main Plaza transforms into 18th century Market Square with madrigal singers, jugglers, gymnast's, kids and adults dressed in costumes. Then, before the concert, the San Antonio Brass play 18th century fanfares... At 7 pm the concert starts.


The MidTexas Symphony performs Sunday afternoon, September 7, in Jackson Auditorium, in Seguin at 4:00 p.m. Music Director David Mairs is joined by pianist Simone Pedroni (right) in Brahms Piano Concerto #2. Camerata San Antonio gets their season underway with Romantic Beginnings September 11, 12 & 14 (in Kerville {7:30pm}, Boerne {7:30pm} and San Antonio {3pm} respectively) with guest artist Yizhak Schotten, viola (seen left). Finally, you love From the Top Saturday mornings at 10am on KPAC and KTXI, so told miss your chance to hear a live show with Christopher O'Riley and From the Top. Saturday, September 13th at 7pm in Trinity University's Laurie Auditorium. Tickets are $27, $22 for TPR Members, $17 students and $12 children 12 and under. Get them at 224-9600 or ticketmaster.
